The partnership provides for high-level energy consultancy and sustainability services, while promoting research on intelligent, sustainable, and efficient energy solutions through a PhD scholarship.
The PHAETHON Centre of Excellence (CoE) of the University of Cyprus and the American Medical Center/American Heart Institute have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the next 6 years, during which the parties will work towards establishing closer co-operation in service of the energy transition.
More specifically, the new partnership MoU intends to promote synergies in essential areas of mutual concern as pertains to energy management, energy efficiency, and conservation, ranging from information sharing, technology transfer, and reciprocal visits, to engaging in collaborative research, as well as on-site volunteering and internship opportunities at the American Medical Center.
Importantly, the agreement tasks PHAETHON CoE with delivering high-level energy consultancy and sustainability services to the American Medical Center, providing for, among others:
- Smart energy management solutions for improved self-sufficiency based on renewable production.
- Energy efficiency and conservation measures.
- Advanced energy modelling and simulations to optimise building performance.
- Educating the American Medical Center employees on energy efficiency and conservation.
The agreement also provides for a scholarship, generously extended by the American Medial Center to support PhD candidates pursuing vital research in intelligent, sustainable, and efficient energy solutions.
The MoU between the two parties was signed by the Director of the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence, Professor George E. Georghiou, and Drs Christos Christou and Dr Marinos Soteriou, members of the Board of the American Medical Center/American Heart Institute. The signing took place at the American Medical Center, in the presence of PHAETHON CoE’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr. George Makrides.
Commenting on the development, Professor Georghiou indicated that the MoU is the starting point for a series of important collaborative activities with the American Medical Center and an instance of PHAETHON CoE partnering with another leader in their field to help realise a more secure energy future. “We are pleased to be formalising our relationship with the American Medical Center in this way, and look forward to helping the Center and its exceptional healthcare professionals fully embrace the energy opportunities that lie ahead”.
On their part, Drs Soteriou and Christou expressed the American Medical Center’s enthusiasm for the partnership, in working towards enhancing the Center’s energy efficiency and optimising its overall operations. “We are greatly looking forward to developing our relationship with the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence and to benefitting from their expertise in the energy field, as part of our avowed mission to provide exceptional patient care in a safe, eco-friendly environment”, they concluded.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties will guide related activity and remain in effect until September 2030.
